The Story Behind Aperture & Atlas

Aperture & Atlas began with a simple realization:

some of the most meaningful stories are the ones no one is paying attention to.

For years, Autumn built a career as a photographer capturing life’s big moments. But over time it became clear that the moments shaping our world often happen quietly, long before anyone is watching.

The early morning work on a farm.

The preparation before a show.

The hands behind a small business.

These are the stories that rarely get documented.

Stu has always been drawn to the history and meaning behind the things people build with their lives — the traditions, the work, and the paths people take that shape communities. Together, that shared curiosity became the foundation for Aperture & Atlas.

This project exists to document the people behind the work.

Not as promotion.

Not as commentary.

But as a visual record of the lives and effort that make everyday life possible.

The farmers.

The makers.

The performers.

The small businesses.

The people whose work keeps everything moving.

Our role is simple: to observe, to listen, and to document — so the stories behind the scenes are not forgotten.

Because every place, every craft, and every life holds a story worth preserving.
